Growing up today, however, children are exposed to such wealth in the form of celebrities’ lifestyles that everything seems smaller by comparison. Speaking on his own experience, Obama said, “There was not that window into the lifestyles of the rich and famous.” He went on to critique the over-the-top lives of West and Kardashian and the effect that they have on young people, explaining, “Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.” One of the most visible couples in pop culture, West and Kardashian have an estimated combined net worth of $130 million.
